|Tim Healy, Director
Tim has been active in the field of ESL for fifteen years as a teacher and administrator. He holds an MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Seattle Pacific University and a BA in Russian from the University of Montana. As a college student, he studied in the U.S.S.R. and subsequently lived in Russia. Tim has published and presented on the topic of authenticity in the language classroom and presented on authoring websites to promote writing skills and using wikis in teacher training. His interests include action research, curriculum development and teacher training. He enjoys working with INTERLINK and SPU staff to assist students in optimizing their opportunities for learning in the multi-cultural environment of Seattle.
|Kara Schultheiss, Student Services Coordinator
Kara is a native of the Pacific Northwest. Having grown up in Portland, OR, she moved to Seattle in 1996 to attend Seattle Pacific University. After four years of working with immigrant/refugee children and families in Seattle, she received her TESOL certificate in 2005 and spent three years teaching English at a university in China. Upon her return to the U.S., she completed an M.Ed. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages at Seattle University and began tutoring and teaching at A.C.E. She has served as the Student Services Coordinator since 2010, and recently took on the additional role of Enrollment Services Director. Kara has presented at the WAESOL, Tri-TESOL and AWISA conferences, and traveled to Thailand to conduct teacher training for a conference of American teachers in China. She is passionate about international education and loves welcoming students to Seattle and helping them have a successful experience both inside and outside the classroom!
|Cindy Herter, Instructor
Cindy Herter began teaching English as a volunteer at Refugee Women’s Alliance in Seattle in 2008 after receiving a Certificate in TESOL from Seattle Central College. She then earned her MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Seattle Pacific University. Cindy presented teaching strategies with complementary cohorts at the Graduate Student Forum at the 2011 international TESOL convention. After graduation in June 2011, she spent nine months teaching in Istanbul, Turkey before returning to Seattle. She has twice trained teachers of English in the TESOL Certificate Program at Seattle Central College. In the summer of 2016, she taught Advanced English at the Summer Language Institute at LCC University in Klaipeda, Lithuania.
|Joe Hamilton, Instructor
Joe is originally from northern Indiana where he received his MA in Theological Studies. He has a TESOL Certificate and began teaching English because of his passion for peace and justice and his interest in empowerment through language. He has taught English to children and adults in Seattle and in South Korea. He presented at the 2017 international TESOL conference and the WAESOL and Tri-TESOL Conferences on the topics of vocabulary and using lexical analysis to select and adapt materials. Joe regularly attends conferences, seminars and reads ESL research. In research, he is especially interested in improving and refining assessment practices and materials. Joe has taught at A.C.E. Language Institute, now INTERLINK, since 2013.
